Enghaveparken was chosen to be part of Vesterbro’s climate protection plan. The park is one of the storm water projects that the City of Copenhagen and HOFOR will implement in order to protect Copenhagen from future storm waters.

“Enghaveparken” has been rebuilt and renovated to accommodate 22,600 m3 of rainwater. To make room for these large quantities of water, a dyke was built around the park. The park has four entrances, all of which are protected by self-closing barriers. In case of heavy rainfall, the park will gradually be flooded and once the total capacity of 22,600 m3 is reached, all entrances will be closed by the self-closing flood barriers (SCFB), meaning the park will at the same time become closed to the public. Three self-closing barriers with a width of 3.5m and one barrier with a width of 5.5m were installed.
